PUDUKOTTAI: The historical rock-cut Jain temple at Sittanavasal, about 16 km from here, will get a facelift in terms of tourism infrastructure soon. The Directorate of Town and Country Planning, under its Heritage Town Development Programme, has sanctioned Rs. 42.25 lakh for infrastructure development at a site beyond a 100 metres radius of the temple. A sum of Rs.16 lakh would be spent for the construction of a waiting room, cloak room and canteen. A modern pay-and-use toilet would be constructed at an expenditure of Rs. 8 lakh and a dormitory at an expenditure of Rs. 7.50 lakh. While Rs.6.75 lakh would be spent for setting up a park and beautification of the site surrounding the temple through green cover and levelling the pathway, a car-parking area would be developed at an expenditure of Rs.2.5 lakh. The District Collector, S.J. Chiru, recently visited the temple. The Deputy Director of Town and Country Planning, Sivagangai, A.V. Madhavan, and the Senior Conservation Assistant, Archaeological Survey of India, P. Vasudevan, were among those who accompanied him. They said that the site had been carefully chosen to avoid disturbance to the structure.
