Hyderabad:
The US Environment Protection Agency and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board have agreed to work in tandem and share technical expertise in delivering safe and clean drinking water to the consumers.
A seven-member team led by Stephen L. Johnson, administrator, US EPA, arrived here on Saturday and acquainted itself with the Board activities. K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Managing Director, HMWSSB, gave a power-point presentation about the various activities of the Board.
Later, Mr. Johnson visited the Asifnagar filterbeds to take a look at the water purification system. "Outstanding work is being done here and the technology has improved over the years", he told presspersons. He appreciated the fact that the Asifnagar filterbeds built in 1921were still catering to the needs of the people.
The EPA and HMWSSB will coordinate in evolving innovative and eco-friendly approaches to provide safe water supply. The developments in water supply system were same in both the countries. The agreement reached with the Board would help in developing innovative and cost -effective approaches. "Our goal is to continue to provide safe water", Mr. Johnson said.
