Elderly couple commits suicide after death of pet dog

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Even as a hue and cry is on over dog menace in the city after a pack of dogs killed an infant at Ziaguda, here is an elderly couple who showcased to the world that their love for their pet dog was eternal.

C. Madan Raj (66) and his wife (63) hanged themselves to death in their house at Gautamnagar in L.B. Nagar on Thursday unable to come over their pet dog Papi's death recently.

The incident, however, came to light on Sunday morning after residents complained to the police that foul smell was emanating from the house. The police broke open the main door only to find the bodies in a highly decomposed state.

A suicide note purportedly written by the couple was recovered from the house in which it was stated that they were committing suicide in severe depression after their canine's death. They had also not paid last month's house rent because of financial problems, the police said.

Madan's relative Padmanabham said the couple came to the city two-and-a-half years ago from their native Karnataka. "Despite facing financial problems, the couple have never sought any help from relatives and friends. They were issueless and staying with the dog for the last 13 years," he said.
