NEW DELHI: The recent Delhi High Court judgment that had come down heavily on traffic violations as well as issued directives to the various transport authorities on a range of issues has put the organisations concerned in a tizzy. Besides asking the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to ensure all its 8,000 drivers are in uniform, the Court has directed that the basic qualification required for drivers should be Class XII. Complying with the order, the DTC has given challans to about 40 drivers for not appearing for duty in uniform. But the order also meant the Corporation's new plans for designing new uniforms for the drivers is put on hold. "We were conducting talks with a non-government organisation on designing new uniforms. But that will have to wait now and the drivers have been asked to get their uniforms ready at the earliest," sources said. But the directive on driver recruitment has created confusion among the DTC officials as the process is already underway for the recruitment of drivers wherein the basic qualification required has been kept at Class X. The officials are now hoping that the judgment would be applicable from the next batch of recruitments. The DTC along with the State Transport Authority has also taken up the task of preparing a unified timetable as per the directive to ensure there is no cluttering of buses at the bus stops.
