NEW DELHI:
The former Chief Justice of India, Rajendra Babu, on Monday took over as the new Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Mr. Justice Babu retired as the Chief Justice on June 1, 2004. He was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court on September 25, 1997.
He is the fifth Chairperson of the Commission.
Landmark judgments
During his tenure in the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Babu delivered several landmark judgments in civil, criminal, constitutional, environmental, taxation, corporate law and intellectual property matters.
He will have a two-year tenure as NHRC Chairperson.
