HYDERABAD: The Government has ruled out the suggestion of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu that it lead a delegation to meet UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and seek her intervention for resolving the Babli dispute with Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah said she was a party leader whereas the Supreme Court, dealing with the Babli case, had addressed its directions to the Centre for resolving the issue. This was the reason why the all-party team from the State had met only the Prime Minister. The Minister said the Centre, either through the Union Water Resources Ministry or CWC, had issued five orders to comply with the apex court direction asking Maharashtra to put the Babli project on hold. Yet, the Maharashtra Chief Minister had gone back on his commitment. The TDP leader had no moral right to talk about Babli since he had woken up to the Alamatti row only after a Congress MLA raised the issue. The Minister denied the charge by Congress MP Madhu Yashki that the legal team arguing the Babli case in the Supreme Court was "deficient."
