Visa sticker for journalists too

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Foreign Ministers from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation have decided that 50 journalists from every SAARC country would be issued a "visa sticker" to facilitate travel within the region.

Announcing this at a press conference, Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon, however, did not spell out the criteria on the basis of which the journalists would be issued the stickers.

Asked about the decision taken by the SAARC Council of Ministers in November 2005 that "accredited journalists of five-year standing" were entitled to the visa stickers, Mr. Menon pointed out that the decision had not been implemented.

Already, Central Government Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers and Members of Parliament are among those entitled to SAARC visa stickers.
