KOLLAM: A 44-year-old man committed suicide after killing his 38-year-old wife following a family dispute. The incident took place at Karunagapally shortly after midnight on Sunday. The police said that Sheela was fatally hacked with a chisel by Ayyappan Achary, who worked as a carpenter. Achary threatened his 14-year-old daughter, Akhila, who rushed to her mother's rescue. Ahkila managed to escape from the house and alerted the neighbours. The neighbours informed the police and by the time the police arrived, Ayyappan fled the scene. With the help of the police, the neighbours took Sheela to the Karunagapally Taluk Hospital. But she was declared dead on arrival. On Monday morning, Ayyappan was found hanging from a tree nearby. The couple have three daughters. Two of them were away at a relative's house at the time of the incident. The Karunagapally police have registered a case.
