New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Amardeep Singh Gill, who was convicted and sentenced to four-year imprisonment by the Delhi High Court for destroying evidence in the Jessica Lal murder case.
"Surrender passport"
A Bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan allowed the release of Gill alias Tony on his furnishing a personal bond for Rs. 25,000 and a surety for a like amount. The Bench directed him to surrender his passport.
Hearing
The court fixed July 17 for hearing the appeal by Manu Sharma, the main accused who is challenging his conviction and life sentence given by the High Court. Son of senior Congress leader Vinod Sharma, he was held guilty of killing the ramp model at a South Delhi restaurant on the intervening night of April 29-30, 1999. Vikas Yadav, son of Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav was also convicted and sentenced to four-year imprisonment for destroying evidence. The court has already rejected his bail plea. PTI
