Nod for Chennai Second Master Plan

A.Srivathsan

Chennai : The State has given its consent to the Second Master Plan proposed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). The Government Order issued on March 30 approved the plan in principle. The plan will be soon made available for public consultation. After receiving public feedback, the plan will be finalized and notified.

The first master plan for Chennai was prepared in 1975 and has been in force since then.

In 1995, the draft second master plan proposed by CMDA met with legal objections including the non-availability of a Tamil translation. In 2001, the Housing and Urban Development department returned this plan. The updated plan resubmitted in 2005 was returned again in December 2006. The government has finally approved the revised plan submitted last month.
