Gurhsarai (U.P.): Rahul Gandhi's road show witnessed some unpleasant moments here on Monday when police used force to control people who wanted to shake hands with the young Congress MP during a meeting.

Police used batons when people pushed and shoved as Mr. Gandhi went towards the barricades to meet them, police said. No one was injured.

Mr. Gandhi's elite SPG bodyguards took him back to the dais and the situation was immediately brought under control.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Gandhi said farmers should be provided with proper irrigation facilities and this was the responsibility of the State Government.

He is touring parts of the State to drum up support for the Congress ahead of the Assembly elections.

Earlier, Mr. Gandhi began his second roadshow with a sharp attack on both the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, accusing them of dividing people on the basis of caste and religion.

At Mehrauni, he played the development card and questioned the records of the successive SP and BSP Governments. — PTI
