Singur: Three night guards, who were returning home after duty at the Tatas car project site in West Bengal's Hooghly district, were attacked by assailants, police said on Monday. The guards, employed to guard the fencing of the small car project here, were beaten up with rods while returning home after duty last on Sunday night, the police said.
`No hand in incident'
The Trinamul Congress led Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, which is opposed to the setting up of the factory, denied having any hand in the incident. The CPI (M) district committee member, Dibakar Das, said the three persons had given up their land for the factory site and were now engaged as night guards. The police registered an FIR in this regard. Nearly 700 people have been recruited as guards by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) to protect the project site comprising 997.11 acres. The WBIDC is in charge of providing security at the project site. PTI
