SALEM: Tamil Nadu Vivasyigal Sangam has urged the district administration to take steps to implement the decisions taken at a tripartite meeting held in connection with the sale of dried chillies in Kolathur market. In a press release, Association district secretary P. Thangavelu said revenue officials conducted the meeting with farmers and traders in February this year following drastic fall in the price of dried chillies. During the meeting, it was decided to conduct public auction for dried chillies to ensure remunerative price to the farmers. Farmers also demanded that the officials direct the traders to use electronic scales and eliminate middlemen.
Not implemented
The officials and the traders had agreed to the demands. But the decisions taken during the meeting were yet to be implemented, he said. He requested the district administration to regulate collection of toll in the market. The toll collectors were not giving receipts to the farmers. Mr. Thangavelu also alleged that the agriculture officials in Nangavalli block were procuring seeds from the market and selling them to the farmers instead of producing in the farms. The district administration should instruct Aavin officials to start milk collection by 5.30 a.m. It should also ensure transparency in the distribution of free house site pattas and lands under the free land scheme. He thanked the State Government for increasing milk procurement price.
