Makes a mark in essay-writing contest

Staff Reporter

TENALI: Third year Bachelor of Pharmacy student K. Harsha Manjusha of A.S.N. Pharmacy College, Tenali, has bagged the fourth prize in the recent national-level essay-writing competition organised by Indian Pharmaceutical Association.

College Principal K. Venkata Ramana said at a press meet at the college on Tuesday that in the essay-writing competition on `practical ways for improvement of community pharmacy in India', Harsha Manjusha stood first in Andhra Pradesh, 2nd in South India and bagged the 4th rank at national level.

She emphasised on health-oriented pharmacy system rather than industry-oriented pharmacy, college correspondent A. Siva Kumar said.

In the developed countries, a special exam is conducted to get a pharmacist registered and such examinations must be conducted in India also for giving better service to patients, she opined.

Knowledge update

The dispensing pharmacists have to update their knowledge about recent drugs time to time. Apart from all these, the most important one was patient counselling which was lacking in India.

Key role

The pharmacist plays key role in explaining the drug-related information, which includes drug - drug interactions drug-food interactions and adverse drug reactions.

It helps in better therapeutic outcome, she said.
