THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government-run Kerala State Beverages Corporation Ltd. (KSBCL), the principal agency for overseeing manufacture and sale of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) in the State, has notched up record gross sales revenue of Rs. 3,143.29 crore in the just-concluded financial year 2006-07. Managing Director of the corporation N. Shanker Reddy told The Hindu here that this marked an increase of 19 per cent (Rs. 507.48 crores) from the gross sales revenue of Rs. 2,635.81 crore achieved in the previous financial year. He said the contribution of the corporation to the State exchequer in 2006-07 was Rs. 2,424.49 crore, an increase of 18 per cent (Rs 368.78 crore) from the previous year's Rs. 2055.71 crore. Mr. Reddy said the corporation sold 132.65-lakh cases of IMFL in 2006-07, while the figure was 109.47 lakh in 2005-06. Beer sales increased by 25 per cent in 2006-07, from 40.19-lakh cases in 2005-06 to 50.05 lakh. The operating profit of the corporation went up to Rs. 550 crore in 2006-07 from Rs. 470.86 crore in the previous year. He said the corporation achieved the highest monthly sales revenue of Rs. 316.51 crore in March this year. The previous record was Rs. 276.44 crore achieved in January this year.
