Letters to the Editor
This refers to the report "Row between coach and seniors looms large" (April 3), which says senior players of Team India came under tremendous pressure as a result of coach Greg Chappell's manner of functioning. But was Chappell not under pressure too? He was appointed with great expectations. But India's successive performances have unsettled him. Even if he was harsh to senior players, one cannot find fault with him. The problem is, our players are not used to being spoken to thanks to the "star" status they enjoy here. If Chappell leaves, Indian cricket, and not he, will be the loser.
K. Sivaraman,
From time to time, Chappell made known his views about some players. They ought to have been considered while selecting the World Cup team. When the time for fixing accountability has come, he cannot be made the scapegoat for India's poor performance.
Chappell's selective media leaks and complaints about senior players amount to passing the buck. The players are not above board either because they do not place the team's interests above their personal stakes. It is time the entire squad including the coach and supporting staff was sacked and a fresh team announced. It is the game that the fans are emotionally attached to, not a bunch of pampered non-performers.
B. Srinithi,
