CHENNAI: This could be a great opportunity for nature lovers and environmentalists. The World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-I) is organising nature camps in the Great Himalayan National Park later this month. The WWF-I nature camps are designed to draw the participants' attention to the importance of nature and its conservation. The camps will cater to mixed groups, students and corporate houses, said Preston Ahimaz, programme coordinator, WWF-I. The Great Himalayan National Park lies in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Covering an area of 754 sq kms, the park lies some 60 km from Kullu and 500 km from New Delhi. The habitat is diverse silver oak, horse chestnut, fir, spruce, birches, rhododendron, alpine flower meadows and rock and snow fields and inhabited by an impressive array of animals such as the Himalayan tahr, blue sheep, musk deer, red fox, common and snow leopard, black and brown bears, tragopan, monal, chir and kaleej pheasants, vultures, eagles, forktails, sunbirds, blue magpies, and many others. The first batch of the camp begins on April 15 and the second batch on April 20. Participants will be picked up from the New Delhi railway station (Ajmeri gate side, near Wimpy's restaurant) at 4 p.m. on the first day of each batch and dropped back at the same place at 9 a.m. on the last day of each batch. Mr. Ahimaz said: "Under the WWF-India's supervision and care, you can experience the grand Himalayan wilderness in all its glory."
