VELLORE: As per the announcement made by Public Works Department Minister Durai Murugan in the Assembly on Tuesday, Vellore Collector Dharmendra Pratap Yadav released 350 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water from the Morethana reservoir on Tuesday evening for the next four days. Of the total release, 200 cusecs were released into the Goundanya River and 75 cusecs each into the left bank canal and the right bank canal. According to the Superintending Engineer, PWD, Nagarajan, who was one of the officials present on the occasion, water had been released with a view to easing the drinking water scarcity in the villages served by the reservoir by facilitating the recharge of the groundwater in the area. The water released in the LBC and RBC would help increase the water level in the farm wells to some extent and benefit a portion of the ayacut farmers. Superintendent of Police N. Arivuchelvam, Executive Engineer, PWD, Upper Palar Basin, Syed Shahabudeen, Gudiyatham MLA, G. Latha, and District Panchayat Chairperson Sheela Rajan, were present.
