Certification for electrical goods upheld
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
The Karnataka High Court has upheld the prescription of standards by the Union Government for certain category of electrical goods, including electrical wire, cable, appliances, electrical protection devices and accessories and making it obligatory for such manufacturers to register themselves.
Seventy manufacturers of electrical goods from Bangalore had moved the court to quash the Electrical Wires, Cable Appliances and Protection Devices and Accessories (Quality Control) Order of 2003 and to declare it illegal.
Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh said the regulatory measures could not be held arbitrary. Disposing of the petitions, he said it was for the petitioners to get the goods tested and certified.
