BANGALORE: The prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, Abdul Kareem Telgi, who was on March 24 sentenced by a Special Court to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 7.25 lakh has decided to move the Karnataka High Court. Telgi along with Bhadrudddin, Irfan Ahmed, Wazir Ahmed Salik and Pradeep Kumar were found guilty by the Special Judge V.V. Angadi under 14 sections of the Indian Penal Code in the case registered at the Peenya police station in May 2003. The Special Court had handed them five to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for criminal conspiracy (Section 120B), counterfeiting government stamp (Section 255), counterfeiting device or mark used for authenticating documents (Section 475) and forging valuable security or will (Section 467); five years for possessing instruments or material for counterfeiting, making or selling counterfeit government stamp, possessing and using counterfeit government stamp, cheating, committing forgery for the purpose of cheating and making or possessing counterfeit seal (Sections 256, 258, 259, 260, 420, 468, 472, 473 and 474) and three years for using forged document. Telgi's counsel M.T. Nanaiah told The Hindu on Tuesday that he would file an appeal in the High Court seeking a stay of the Special Court order and calling for records. He said although the judgment was pronounced on March 24, he was still to get a certified copy of it.
