Acting Chairman adjourns Council session abruptly
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
Even as members of the Legislative Council were expecting the Government to make a statement on the murders of two political activists in Kolar and Bellary recently, acting Chairman N. Thippanna adjourned the House abruptly on Tuesday.
During the post-lunch session, V.R. Sudarshan (Congress), M.P. Nadagouda and Basavaraj Bommai (JD-U) and Shashil G. Namoshi (BJP) urged the chair to direct the Government to make a statement on the two incidents.
While directing the Government to comply with the demand of the members, Mr. Thippanna noted that many Ministers, members and officials were absent. But at the behest of the members, he asked the Government's Chief Whip, H.C. Neeravari, and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Govind Karjol to act immediately.
At that juncture, there were 17 members in the House, including four Ministers (all BJP).
Assuring the House that the Ministers concerned would and make statements in the House later, Mr. Thippanna took up the listed business, which was a discussion on the Cauvery dispute.
As V.S Ugrappa (Congress) was speaking on the subject, Mr. Thippanna suddenly adjourned the House for the day.
