ANANTAPUR: The District Road Safety Committee, which met here on Monday under the chairmanship of District Collector D. Kadmiel, decided to act tough with overloading vehicles, both passenger and goods, and vehicles using domestic LPG illegally. All such vehicles would be seized and imposed heavy penalty, the Collector said. Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra, Deputy Commissioner of Transport Altaf Rahim Khan, Regional Manager of APSRTC M.S. Prakash Rao, officials of roads and buildings, national highways, medical and health department and others participated in the meeting. The meeting felt that overloading of passenger and goods vehicles was leading to accidents.
LPG shortage
Unauthorised use of domestic LPG for vehicles like autos and cars was increasing and leading to shortage of gas for domestic consumers, the Collector said. About 2,000 autos and a large number of cars were using domestic cylinders in Anantapur town alone. The Collector and SP directed the police and RTA officials to seize all vehicles using gas without having approved kits. Instructions were also issued to excise officials to check selling and consumption of liquor in dhabas along the national highways, to examine drivers with breathe analysers to avoid drunken driving and to post sign boards at all necessary points on highways.
