All because of three `Rs'!

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The opening business of the Legislative Council witnessed some lighter moments on Tuesday.

This followed a comment by Puvvada Nageswara Rao (CPI) about the connection of the "three Rs" with the Council. Members burst into laughter when Mr. Rao observed that the Council was dissolved because of the "three Rs" - Rama Rao (the former Chief Minister), Rosaiah (the then Opposition leader) and Ramoji Rao (Eenadu group chairman).

Another Congress member P. Sudhakar Reddy was quick to add that "three Rs" were also responsible for revival of the Upper House. They were Rameshwar Thakur (Governor), Rajasekhara Reddy (Chief Minister) and Rosaiah (Legislative Affairs Minister).

Showering praises on the Council chairman A. Chakarapani, Congress member Paladugu Venkat Rao said he was confused whether to address him as Chairman or Speaker as the word Chairman had no exact translation in Telugu. "If the Speaker who heads the Legislative Assembly is called Sabhapati in Telugu there has to be some word to be used for addressing the Chairman who presides over the Council," he said.
