Governor's address a farce: Naidu

Special Correspondent

A farce, says Naidu; CPI(M) finds it a `repetition'

HYDERABAD: Opposition parties on Tuesday criticised the Governor's address to the joint session of the legislature on the grounds that the OBC quota issue did not find a mention in it.

TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu termed the Governor's address at the joint session of the Legislative Assembly and Council as `farce'. "There is not even a single point that is new," he said. Referring to the OBC quota, he said the Government deliberately avoided mention of the controversy, which only showed its "callous attitude towards the suffering for lakhs of BCs."

Mr. Naidu felt that revival of Council was a measure aimed at rehabilitating Congress workers. The 12 persons nominated by the Governor only made clear the Congress' intention to accommodate its leaders in some post. CPI (M) floor leader Nomula Narasimhaiah said the address was a repetition of Governor's speech on the first day of the budget session. CPI leader Puvvada Nageswara Rao said the Government had nothing new to offer to people. He said the speech did not cover power shortage or rampant corruption in the State. BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy wondered how the Government could justify its act in electing Chairman of the Council, when results of local authorities constituencies were yet to be announced.
