Music festival in Alappuzha

ALAPPUZHA: A three-day music festival, titled the Swathi Thirunal Sangeethotsavam, will begin at the SDV Besant Hall here on Thursday.

Being organised jointly by the Sanathana Dharma Vidyasala, Keraliya Kalakshetram, Shri Rajarajeswari Sangeetha Sabha and the Alappuzha District Kathakali Club, the festival will be inaugurated by Alappuzha MP KS Manoj at 4.30 p.m. on Thursday.

Young film music director Balabhaskar will perform on the opening day, which will also see noted flute exponent Kaithavana Raveendranath being presented with the `Sangeetha Shrestha' award.

Kathakali greats like Kalamandalam Gopi, Margi Vijaykumar and Kalamandalam Ramchandran Unnithan, classic music exponent Trichy Ganeshan and others will also be performing during the event, which will have music seminars, music appreciation sessions and Sangeetha Aradhana programmes, the organisers said here on Tuesday.
