Details of reservation of wards released

Gulbarga local body elections in May

GULBARGA: The State Election Commission and the Department for Urban Development has released the details of the reservation of wards under the Gulbarga City Corporation (GCC), the Gumitkal, Chincholi, Jewargi, Shahapur, and Afsalpur town panchayats, the Aland, Chitapur, Sedam and Surpur town municipal councils, and the Yadgir and Shahabad city municipal councils, which are to go in for elections in May.

State Election Commissioner M.R. Hegde will be arriving here on Wednesday to hold a review meeting with all senior officials of the Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Bellary and Koppal district administrations on the preparations being made for the urban civic body elections in these districts.

According to the notification issued by the Urban Development Department, in the 55-member Gulbarga City Corporation, 18 seats have been reserved for the general category, nine seats for the general category for women, nine seats for the Backward Classes `A' category, five seats for Backward Classes `A' category for women, five seats for the Scheduled Castes, three seats for Scheduled Caste women, one seat each for Backward Classes `B' category for women and Scheduled Tribe Women, and three seats for the Backward Classes `B' category.
