Top Congress leaders hit the campaign trail

Staff Reporter

Sheila, Maken among those campaigning for the party

NEW DELHI: With just a day to go for the campaigning to end for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, senior Congress leaders addressed a large number of public meetings across Delhi and urged the people to vote for the party.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma undertook tours of various wards and appealed to the people to give Congress another chance as it has been giving top priority to resolving their problems.

On the other hand, he said, the Bharatiya Janata Party had not only not done anything for the welfare of the people, it has also been creating obstructions in framing of new policies.

Mr Sharma, who addressed rallies in support of party candidates from Panchsheel Garden, Khajoori Khas, Maujpur and Mansarovar Garden, said the Congress was moving ahead towards absolute majority in the forthcoming elections and this was quite evident from the manner in which the party candidates were getting the support of the people.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit campaigned hard during the day addressing public meetings at Punjabi Bagh, Karol Bagh, Madangiri, Madanpur Khadar, Vishnu Garden, Rohini Sector 3 and Kirari village.

She said at a time when Delhi was improving rapidly, it was essential that the Congress was voted back to power in MCD.

Ms Dikshit said the Congress was seeking votes on the basis of its performance and would leave no stone unturned to provide better facilities to the people. She also assured that there would be a marked improvement in the power and water supply situation this summer.

Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken addressed meetings at Khajoori Khas, Dilshad Colony, Mayur Vihar, Minto Road, Raghubir Nagar and Agarsain Park and focused on how the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021 and the decision to regularize nearly 1,500 colonies would benefit over 40 lakh citizens and save thousands from the curse of sealing and demolition.

He said return of the Congress in MCD would help in speedier implementation of the new Master Plan. Unlike BJP, he claimed, the party had definite plans in mind and on the anvil for all-round development of Delhi.
