Allahabad: A day after the release of its manifesto for the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday clarified that its commitment towards the cause of Hindutva must not be perceived as its lack of sensitivity towards problems plaguing the State. "Our stress on Vande Mataram, Surya Namaskar and other such things related to cultural nationalism have been highlighted in a way that suggests BJP is oblivious of problems common man is facing. This could not be further from the truth," State BJP president Keshri Nath Tripathi said. Mr. Tripathi made it clear that the party had "special measures" in mind to speedily transform U.P. into a State that was free from "bhay, bhookh aur bhrashtachar" (fear, hunger and corruption). He said the party had given top priority to improving law and order in the state by modernising police force and breaking the nexus between mafia and police and politicians. PTI
