MANGALORE: Some devotees of Babbuswamy Daivasthana near Nanthoor Circle have urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) not to acquire certain portion of the daivasthana's premises to build a flyover as part of the four-laning work of National Highways 17 and 13. Srinivas Kadri, convener of the daivasthana, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the NHAI could change the plan of the flyover. Instead of using a portion of the daivasthana's premises, the NHAI could utilise the vacant land in front of it to build the flyover, he said. He said that the authorities of the daivasthana had brought this matter to the notice of the NHAI authorities. An official at the NHAI project office here told The Hindu that the NHAI was aware of the demand of the people. Since a flyover with a curve would be built at Nanthoor, the NHAI had maintained a minimum required radius to save the daivasthana.
Gap
The NHAI had to acquire some portion of the daivasthana. But the acquisition would not affect its the main structure, the official said and added that even after the flyover was built, there would be two to three-metre gap between the flyover and the daivasthana. The official said that since it would be a one km-long flyover from Bikarnakatte on NH-13 towards Surathkal on NH-17, it was not be possible for the NHAI to utilise the vacant land in front of the daivasthana.
