Honour for film artists
Three veteran film artists will be honoured for their achievements by Padmashree Chittoor V.Nagayya Memorial Academy on Saturday.
Veteran artist and Academy president Anjali Devi said director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, actress Sowcar Janaki and playback singer and actor S.P. Balasubramanyam would be honoured.
"Versatile artists"
They were chosen for their versatility and their contribution to the film industry, she said.
The ceremony also marks the 103rd birth anniversary celebration of renowned actor and singer Chittoor V.Nagayya.
Ms. Devi said the Mr. Nagayya acted in about 250 films in South Indian languages.
The Academy was founded three years ago in memory of the multi-faceted artist, who was also a singer, director and producer.
The Academy also plans to set up a trust to help needy students.
Academy vice president T.G. Kamala Devi said the trust would give shape to Mr. Nagayya's dream to contribute to the education of the underprivileged.
Scholarships
Scholarships and free books would be given to five students at the awards ceremony.
Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbirami Reddy is expected to participate in the function to be held at Vani Mahal, T.Nagar.
