Mayor inspects training centre

CHENNAI: Corporation Mayor M. Subramanian inspected the vocational training centre where underprivileged students are being taught bakery technology and computer basics in the Adyar Zone on Tuesday. He said there was a need for more such training institutes in other parts of the city. He urged more students to join and benefit from the courses being run on premises provided by the civic body with assistance from the Rotary Club of Madras East and Hot Breads. Some 276 students have completed training in computer basics and 97 in bakery technology from the centre so far, a press release said.

Facility withdrawn

The facility of paying the BSNL Chennai Telephones bills through the branches of Corporation Bank has been withdrawn from April 1, a release said.

Free Sanskrit classes

Free Sanskrit classes will begin on Wednesday at Mambalam Samskrita Vidyalaya on K.R. Koil Street in West Mambalam. Classes will be held three times a week between 7 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. on the days chosen. For details, call 24893224 or 24717555.

Free computer courses

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Gandhi Institute will offer free computer courses in DTP (MS-Word, PageMaker, CorelDraw), Accounts Assistant Course (Word, Excel, EX-NGN, Tally), Visual Basic, .NET, C and C++. Candidates, aged 18 to 35, from economically weak families can apply. Eligibility is a pass in Plus-Two. Application forms (Rs. 50 each) are available at 18 - 22, East Mada Street, Mylapore, till April 4. Aptitude test will be held on April 8. For details, call 24643420/50

Narasimhar temple kumbhabishekam

The kumbhabishekam of the newly-constructed Lakshmi Narasimhar temple in Thillai Ganga Nagar in Nanganallur will be performed on April 4 between 10 a.m. and

10.45 a.m.

Azhagia Singar Swamy, 45th pontiff of Ahobila Mutt, will participate. A procession will take place at 7 p.m. on the same day.

Free health assessment

MedIndia Hospitals will hold a free health risk assessment programme for persons who are above 40 years of age with a family history of diabetes, obesity, cancer, heart disease or hypertension.

The camp, to be held on April 6, is open to the first 100 persons to register.

A public health exhibition on disease prevention will be held the same day.

Madras University job fair held

Around 80 candidates were placed with different companies at the job fair held at the University of Madras on Sunday

and Monday. '

Organised by Riddhi Consulting Private Ltd, the fair had job aspirants participating in large numbers.

Around 900 students were short-listed for interviews during the fair.
