CHENNAI : A traffic diversion on R.K. Mutt Road between Luz Corner and Mandaveli bus terminus baffled many commuters using Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses on Tuesday. In the morning, MTC buses plying from Luz towards Mandaveli were stopped at Mandaveli Street-St. Mary's Road intersection as the road was blocked for works carried out by Chennai Metrowater. In the afternoon, however, private and MTC buses from Royapettah High Road were diverted along Luz Church Road, Warren Road and St. Mary's Road to reach Mandaveli. Confused by the arrangement, commuters were seen waiting for their buses near the Mylapore tank. A resident of Kottur, M. Bagavathy, said he was waiting at the Mylapore Tank bus stop to take MTC route 21-G when passers-by told him about the diversion, following which he walked up to Luz corner to catch a bus. According to Kalanidhi, a resident of Mylapore, the traffic diversion was in place for the past ten days on account of the Kapaleeswarar temple festival. However, buses from Mandaveli were allowed to proceed towards Luz. A Metrowater official said they were carrying out pipe-laying work, which would be completed by Tuesday night.
