`SCR reforms will continue'

Systems have been put in place, says former SCR General Manager

HYDERABAD: D.N. Mathur, former General Manager of the South Central Railway, on his superannuation said the focus on passenger amenities, cleanliness and safety that has led to a 41 per cent growth in revenue during the past two years, would continue as systems had been put in place.

He was speaking to presspersons after acknowledging a farewell accorded to him by the Public Relations Department of the SCR, here on Tuesday.

Recalling his over two years stint as General Manager, he said that it had been fruitful in many ways.

Revenue from passenger and freight traffic had seen a quantum jump year-on-year, the fiscal 2007-08 had seen increased budgetary allocations to the tune of whopping 76 per cent, specially for ongoing projects and allocation for passenger amenities had grown from Rs. 18 crores in 2004-05 to Rs. 85 crores now.

In all, the parameters like passenger and freight handling, punctuality, passenger amenities and safety, SCR was being viewed as a model by other zones, Mr. Mathur said.

Earlier, after felicitating Mr. Mathur, D. Amar, Chairman of Press Club of Andhra Pradesh, had a word of praise for the PR wing of the SCR in making available information to the media for dissemination among the crores of passengers who used trains everyday.

He said that PR departments in large organisations like the SCR needed to be very effective because they touched the everyday lives of crores of people.

Earlier, Chief Public Relations Officer P. Krishnaiah welcomed the gathering, while Senior PRO F.R. Michael proposed vote of thanks.

Others present include P.C. Kumar, Additional General Manager and P. Vijayakumar, Deputy General Manager.
