Staff Reporter

Excepting for the transactions where mandatory presence is required, the rest can be applied online

HYDERABAD: Obtaining driving licence applications or payment of taxes or performing any other transaction at the Regional Transport Authority offices will be made easy as the Transport Department is proposing to introduce web-enabled services.

Excepting for the transactions where in, mandatory presence of the applicant and the vehicle is required, the rest can be applied online and a slot time will be given with a code number as acknowledgement. Later, the applicants can collect their documents from the respective RTA office. Under the new system, which is also called as Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), aspirants of learning licence can take online examination.

Initially, to avoid manipulation of data, biometric measurements from applicants, including fingerprints, eye retinas and irises will be taken at select centres. Further, applicants can perform any transaction from anywhere in the State. For instance, in the present system if a person obtains his driving license from Visakhapatnam, he has to renew it from that particular regional office where as it would not be required after the new service comes into use. One can renew it from anywhere in the State, explains Joint Transport Commissioner N. V. Subba Rao. "We want to make things easy for people. They can even download cleared documents pertaining renewal of route permits, licence etc sitting in their homes. Applicants need not come to our office for each and every transaction," said Mr. Subba Rao.

Three pilot sites for Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Cuddapah with an estimated cost of Rs. 4.8 crores each is proposed and already the bidder has been finalised to customise and maintain the system for three years, he added.
