An artist's fruits of labour

DEXTERITY: One of Alan Kilpatrick's works

Alan Kilpatrick

has been an "artist in residence" at the Bangalore Artists Centre since

January. "Fruits of Labour" is the culmination of the works he produced over the past three months in Bangalore.

These works will now be on show at the 1. Shanthi Road Studio Gallery here on April 6.

Alan, who was born in Assam, graduated from St. Martin's School of Art, London.

He has been living and working from his studio based in Edinburgh, Scotland, since 1991. His childhood was spent in the tea gardens, of which he has fond memories.

Reference is often made in his works to labourers, tea pickers, and the issues of migration and militancy in Assam.

Alan's works relate to the toys he played with as a child.

He incorporates them with his cutting-edge strategy in the context of the political and social unrest in the north-east, says critic Suresh Jayaram.
