Books are a source of revenue

Staff Reporter

The managements get a commission when they buy books from publishers

BANGALORE: As the examination comes to an end, parents are asked to make part payment towards the textbooks and notebooks for the next academic year.

Most schools arrange for the distribution of books by collecting money.

The books are then distributed to children on the day of results.

Parents spend anywhere between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 4,000 on textbooks and notebooks, and the price varies depending on the school and the companies with they enter into agreements.

It is learnt that most often the managements get a commission of around 20 per cent when they buy books from publishers to distribute among students. Books are customised with school's name and other details printed on them. These books are also available in the market. Clearly, this arrangement is a money-spinner for the managements.

"With most books for CBSE/ICSE syllabus coming from Delhi, we do not know the original price. If the managements can get the book customised, they can also get prices of their choice printed on the books," said a parent who spends around Rs. 3,500 on books for his child every year.
