Telugu Desam Party legislators stage dharna

FOR RYOTS: Telugu Desam legislators protesting in front of the AP Markfed at Parisrama Bhavan in Hyderabad on Tuesday demanding remunerative prices for turmeric farmers.

HYDERABAD: Eight MLAs of the Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday staged a dharna before the offices of the Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation (Markfed) demanding that it buy turmeric at Rs. 3,000 per quintal to help farmers

Supported by several leaders, cadres and farmers, the MLAs raised slogans denouncing the `uncaring' State Government and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for not coming to the rescue of turmeric farmers despite several representations.

They regretted that a report to the Chief Minister on the situation by a Telugu Desam Legislature Party team that visited the Nizamabad marketyard had not yielded results.

MLAs K. Balaramakrishna Murthy, Padala Aruna, A. Sreedevi, P. Sujatha, D. Narendra Kumar, D. Umamaheswara Rao, Ch. Babu Ramesh and K. Atchannaidu and party spokesperson N. Rajakumari.
