Intensified agitation against religious activity

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Tirumala Tirupati Samrakshana Samiti has decided to intensify its agitation of organising hunger strike if the Government fails to take action on two of its demands by the month-end. The demands are declaring Tirumala hills as abode of Lord Venkateswara and checking other religious activity on Tirumala.

The decision was taken at a meeting of 43 peetadhipathis, organised by the samiti. The samiti leaders said later that the meeting resolved to ask the Government not to allow religious activity near schools and hospitals. The leaders said the samiti had already organised fasts in 250 mandals across the State. The meeting resolved to undertake tours next month by at least 15 peetadhipathis in one district each.
