MLA hospitalised

Private secretary of EMS passes away

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: V.K. Chacko who was private secretary of the late E.M. Sankaran Namboodiripad, the first Chief Minister of the State, died here on Tuesday evening. He was 99. A resident of Vegalil in Kumarapuram, Mr. Chacko's end came around 5.15 p.m. during a photo session held in connection with the golden jubilee celebration of the first Communist Government. Mr. Chacko started his career as a clerk in C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer's Travancore Secretariat. He also served as a First Class Magistrate in Thodupuzha and Pathanamthitta. — Staff Reporter

Man drowns in pond

Thiruvananthapuram: A 62-year-old man drowned while taking a bath in the temple pond of Valiyeswaram Mahadevar temple on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Rajappan Chettiar of Anayara. — Staff Reporter
