Four held for double murder

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Four young men allegedly involved in a double murder in neighbouring Gurgaon last year were arrested following an encounter with the Crime Branch of the Delhi police near the Tughlakabad Shooting Range here on Monday. The police claim to have recovered four firearms from their possession.

The Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch received a tip-off that some criminals would pass by the Tughlakabad Shooting Range in a Hyundai Accent car. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the vehicle was intercepted around 4 p.m. Two of the accused sitting on the rear seat of the vehicle opened fire, but the police managed to overpower them all.

The accused were identified as Manish, Sonu, Amit Dagar and Sandeep. The vehicle was found registered in Amit's name.During interrogation, the four purportedly confessed to their involvement in a double murder in Gurgaon in which they gunned down Sudesh and Lal Singh in December last.

The police said Sudesh, son of a rich landlord, Sandeep, one Jitender and Randhawa were once close friends, but they fell out over some dispute. Thereafter Randhawa, who had a criminal past, was murdered.

Jitender suspected that Sudesh was involved in the murder. But before he would strike, Sudesh allegedly shot him dead about four years ago.

Jitender's brothers Manish and Kaushal then allegedly murdered Sudesh's father and fled to Jaipur. On October 24, 2006, a team led by Inspector Subhash Tandon of the Inter-State Cell arrested Sudesh along with five of his accomplices.

About two months later, Kaushal, Manish, Amit and their accomplices allegedly murdered Sudesh when he was being taken to Jaipur by the police. His relative Lal Singh was also killed in the crossfire.
