NEW DELHI: The Delhi State Election Commission has issued show cause notices to two MLAs for violating the model code of conduct. Both the MLAs -- Sahib Singh Chauhan from Yamuna Vihar and Subhash Sachdeva from Moti Nagar -- are from the Bharatiya Janata Party who allegedly wrote to people on their official letterheads in their constituencies seeking votes for their party candidates. According to Delhi State Election Commissioner S.P. Marwah, after complaints against the two MLAs that they had misused their official letterheads for canvassing purposes which was a serious violation of the model code of conduct. Their letters contained information about various works they have done in their areas and sought votes for their party candidates, he added. "We have served show cause notices. If found violating election norms, they will be penalised," said Mr. Marwah. He also informed that the Election Commission has so far served 35 show cause notices to candidates and other political leaders for violating the model code of conduct. "We have also forwarded 105 various complaints to the Delhi police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for action. So far, we have received 253 complaints against candidates and political parties," Mr. Marwah added.
