Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial "Nepal's tryst with destiny" (April 3). That an interim government has been formed in the Himalayan state with the participation of Maoists is indeed heartening. The historic development will no doubt pave the way for peace in Nepal.
The development is a big boost to peace in South Asia. The CPN (Maoist)'s decision to participate in the government should be an eye-opener to many of our States, which are grappling with the naxal problem. There can be no shortcut in putting an end to it. Efforts should be made to bring the ultras into the mainstream. Issues of marginalisation and casteism need to be systematically addressed.
Angel & Jeevan Kuruvilla,
Nepal's destiny cannot be shaped by including Maoists, whose belief in democracy is suspect, in governance. The people who overthrew the king have not done anything wise by allowing the Maoists to rule. The development is dangerous not only for Nepal but also for India.
Singanallur Sundaram,
