DRAWING ATTENTION: Junior doctors staging a dharna in front of Government. Medical College at Anantapur on Wednesday.
ANANTAPUR: Junior doctors and medicos of the Government Medical College and its attached hospital here launched an indefinite agitation on Wednesday, demanding facilities, including infrastructure, teaching faculty and non-teaching staff required for getting recognition from Medical Council of India. They displayed placards with slogans written on them describing their position without MCI recognition. They sought to know when the State Government would act up on the queries raised by the MCI repeatedly for getting recognition. They also raised slogans against the Government. The junior doctors boycotted duties and the medicos boycotted classes to participate in a dharna staged in front of the medical college/hospital premises. They stated that three batches of 40, 70 and 40 students had already completed medical education in the college but their degrees were yet to be recognised by the MCI due to lack of infrastructure.
Vacancies
They asked the Government to immediately fill the vacancies of teaching faculty and non-teaching staff and also provide infrastructure required for MCI recognition. Future of the doctors rolling out the college was jeopardy as they were even unable to commence practice or do a job due to lack of recognition to their degree.
