KOZHIKODE: As per the directive of District Collector A. Jayathilak, tanker lorries are being seized by the authorities to avoid scarcity of fuel in the backdrop of the truckers' stir entering the fourth day on Thursday. ADM P. Balan, RDO Mohammed Sageer, RTO A.J. Babu attended a meeting at the Collectorate Conference hall to review the situation. As many as 11 fuel tankers were despatched from the Chelari LPG bottling plant to centres in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts with police escort on Wednesday. This was in addition to the 66 tankers of fuel transported from the Indian Oil Corporation depot at Faroke to centres in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Mahe, and Malappuram. Also, 33 petrol tankers and five loads of kerosene were despatched from the Elathur depot of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation to different centres. The District Supply Officer said that there was sufficient stock of diesel and petrol besides essential commodities to meet consumer demands for three days. Police protection would be provided on request for those who wanted to transport fuel and essential commodities. The Collector directed that tankers with fuel of the Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Reliance could be seized with the order of the RDO and transported, besides supplying of drivers by the Regional Transport Officer.
