MYSORE: Infrastructure Development Corporation of Karnataka (I-DECK) is working on a project to revive six lakes in and around Mysore city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) had asked the agency to prepare detailed project reports for the restoration of Dalvoy, Bogadi, Hebbal, Kythamaranahalli, Hinkal and Kukkarahalli lakes during the current year. Though the Kukkarahalli Lake had been restored, it has been included in the revival plan to be converted into a nature park on the lines of Karanji Lake Nature Park. Among the lakes in need of immediate attention, only those having the potential to be developed as tourist spots have been identified for restoration. MCC Commissioner K.N. Chandrashekar told The Hindu that project reports would be ready within three months and they would be sent to the Centre for approval. "In all probability, the lake revival work will be launched either in August or September," he said. A separate component for lake development had been created in JNNURM. "We may get Rs. 10 crore for restoring the lakes," the commissioner said. The commissioner, however, did not rule out including more lakes in the revival plan.
