HASSAN: Movement of trains from Mangalore Railway Station will not be allowed if passenger trains in the Mangalore-Bangalore sector do not start by May 1, State BJP president and Mangalore MP Sadananda Gowda has said. He refuted the allegation that he did not do anything to start passenger trains on the route. "It was me who got the notification issued to start goods trains in the Mangalore-Hassan section," he said. Addressing presspersons in Hassan on Wednesday, Mr. Sadananda Gowda said he had raised the issue in Parliament six times. "I saw to it that Rs. 32 crore was released for strengthening of the track near Sakleshpur. I spoke to Minister of State for Railways R. Velu and also Railway Board Chairman on starting passenger trains that have been held up for want of certification from the Commissioner for Rail Safety (CRS).
Inspection
The CRS will visit Mangalore and inspect the section on April 10 or 11. The 2006 Railway Budget had announced starting of the Hassan-Bangalore train via Arsikere, Mr. Sadananda Gowda added.
