SC woman tops list of sub-inspector recruits

Staff Correspondent

  • Nearly 3,500 applications had been received for the post
  • Entire selection process completed within five months

Belgaum: A Scheduled Caste (SC) candidate, M. Shobha, has topped the list of 368 candidates selected for the post of police sub-inspector in the State.

Disclosing this here on Wednesday, Additional Director General of Police (Appointment and Training) D.V. Guruprasad complimented Ms. Shobha, as well as K. Vasantkumar, who had topped the list of male candidates.

He said the Police Department had received nearly 3,500 applications for the post, of which nearly 1,100 were called for the interview.

He said that the performance of SC and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates had been much better than that of those from the general category. While there were about 168 posts reserved for those from the general category, only 13 had qualified. This showed the enthusiasm of candidates from socially and economically backward categories, he said.

Mr. Guruprasad said that the entire selection process had been completed within five months, which was a record.

He said that the department had taken care to ensure complete transparency by videographing the entire process of physical tests conducted for each candidate. Also, professors and lecturers had been engaged in the valuation of answer scripts, as opposed to the previous practice of engaging police officers.

Photocopies of answer scripts would be made available to candidates on payment of Rs. 250, Mr. Guruprasad said. Those interested would have to apply for the photocopies before April 16 to the ADGP, Appointment and Recruitment, Bangalore.
