HYDERABAD: Different political parties and Backward Classes' organisations hailed as `a success' the State-wide bandh observed on Wednesday to protest the Supreme Court stay on 27 per cent reservations for OBCs in higher educational institutions. R. Krishnaiah, president, AP State BC Weflare Association, described the `total' bandh as `historic' since such largescale protest was not witnessed during the last 15 years. He thanked N.Chandrababu Naidu, K.Chandrashekhar Rao and K.Narayana, top leaders of the TDP, TRS and CPI respectively, as also representatives of various BC organisations and traders for their participation. V. Krishna Mohan Rao, Member, AP Commission for Backward Classes, in a statement said the success of the bandh indicated the unity among BCs in the State. He called for re-examination of the court ruling in view of the anguish caused among BCs who constitute a majority of the population.
Solidarity
S. Subash Chandra Bose, secretary, CPI(ML-New Democracy), said the solidarity and support extended by parties, people, BC organisations and intellectuals, to the bandh should be continued till the reservations were implemented. J. Raju, additional secreatary, All-India Students' Federation, city unit, while demanding a legislation for extending the reservation wanted the court to ex-consider its judgment. P .Jalamaiah, convener, AP Artisans' Coordination Committee, said in a statement that a delegation comprising N.Narsimhaiah, CPI(M), Ch. Seetaramulu, both legislators, and himself, among others, had represented to Governor Rameshwar Thakur on the need for OBC reservations. Mr. Thakur had assured to take the plea to the Centre's notice. However, the Jana Vignana Vedika appealed to all parties and organisations to put an end to the practice of observing bandhs and rasta roko/rail roko demonstrations. V.Lakshma Reddy, president, said they should strive for holding protests which do not cause loss to people.
