Young scientists in the making

BANGALORE: Sri Vani Education Centre, Magadi Road, organised "Innovations Unleashed," a science exhibition, recently. Students from kindergarten to K-12 exhibited models and projects prepared by them.

The most attractive corner was the journey to space, which had the visitors thronging. Two flights of stairs were darkened to depict the different layers of atmosphere beginning with Biosphere where they had children from nursery to second standard dressed as animals and flowers leading to Troposphere, Stratosphere, Ionosphere and Exosphere.

After exploring the earth's atmosphere, the visitors went around looking at the various exhibits and special additions of this year — Kids for Tigers, games at the computer department art and craft display.

A short film "India and Space" from ISRO and a lecture programme "Space Exploration" from Bangalore Astronomical Society were organised. Students not only explained the experiments and displays but also presented a role-play (sericulture) and a song on Ozone Layer.

Graduation day

The fireworks and the speech from the "firebrand" police officer Kiran Bedi marked the graduation ceremony organised for the first batch students of International Baccalaureate programme at Indus International School recently. The 57 students, in anticipation of a bright future were thrilled by the presence of Ms. Bedi, who is the Director-General of Bureau of Police Research and Development.

Addressing the students, she said: "The future is in your hands. Also, learn to care for the under-privileged." She urged the students to start a movement called Indus Plus. Ms. Kiran presented the awards to students. Fathima Imrah Reyaz was awarded the Dr. Prannoy Roy trophy for outstanding academic and all round excellence. Aditya Agarwal and Nayana Kamath were the other two recipients of the "Outstanding Students" Award Tanushree Bhandari winner of the All India Essay competition held in New Delhi was presented with the "Young Achiever" Award.
