Notice to Rahul Mahajan on drug trafficking charge

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The prosecution has moved the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to the trial court here to try Rahul Mahajan, son of the slain Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, for allegedly providing money for sale and purchase of narcotic drugs.

Rahul Mahajan and five others are facing prosecution in a case of drug abuse at his father's official residence at 7 Safdarjung Road here in June 2006. Taking the prosecution's petition on record, Justice Reva Khetrapal issued notice to Mr. Mahajan asking him to file a reply.

In the petition, the prosecution submitted that while framing charges against Mr. Mahajan and the five others, the trial court discharged him of the allegation of indulging in drug trafficking. This despite the fact that Karan Ahuja, one of the witnesses, said Mr. Mahajan asked Sahil Zaroo, another accused, to keep the balance of the amount given to him to buy drugs for future use.
